Putin reveals his income for campaign

MOSCOW, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin's income is in line with other heads of state, according to his declaration as a presidential candidate.

The Moscow Times reported Putin has submitted an income and property declaration to the Central Elections Commission, as have six other candidates.

According to the declaration, Putin earned a total of 7.8 million rubles (about $270,000) from 1999 to 2002, and has savings in three banks worth $134,000.

The presidential election is March 14. Putin received the official go ahead to run Monday when the commission ruled the 2.5 million signatures he submitted to support his presidential bid were valid.

The report detailed income and property declarations, including income from publishers Olma-Press and Arnoldo Mondadore Editore for his book, "Learning Judo With Vladimir Putin."

In his income report he submitted before the 2000 presidential election campaign, he declared a more modest income of 266,000 rubles ($9,300).
