Gen. Myers:Terrorists want to do more

WASHINGTON, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Richard Myers, Sunday said that terrorists would kill 10,000 at a crack if they could.

Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Myers said, "We take all these intelligence tips very, very seriously and work to mitigate that here at home and, as you see, in Iraq and Afghanistan and the horn of Africa." Myers just returned from an Iraq visit.

Time Magazine's designation of the American soldier as the person of the year "is just exactly right," Myers said. "It's the military that stands between the terrorists and their goal. And they're doing a terrific job and we're going to have to probably use them for some time to come."

Myers said the Defense Department is working closely with the Department of Homeland Security on the increased evidence of threats that led to a return to the higher orange warning status later in the day.
