S.Korea to send troops to Iraq

SEOUL, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Despite the killings of two of its engineers, South Korea vowed Monday to send thousands of additional troops to join the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq.

President Roh Moo-hyun condemned Sunday's attack, which killed two South Korean electricians and wounded two other South Koreans in northern Iraq, as "intolerable" terror.

The four South Korean workers, sub-contracted to a U.S. firm laying power lines, were shot while riding in a civilian car near on a road near Tikrit, north of Baghdad.

"This incident is not terror against the military or a public organization but terror against civilians," Roh said. "This kind of inhumane activity is intolerable."

Foreign Minister Yoon Young-kwan said the attack would not affect Seoul's plans to send troops to Iraq.

"Despite the sacrifices of the tragic incident, the government will not give into violence and we will continue to make efforts to provide humanitarian aid and join relief and reconstruction projects in Iraq," he told a press conference.
