Peterson was arrested last spring after the discovery of his wife's remains and those of the infant boy in San Francisco Bay. Peterson had told police he was fishing on the bay when his wife vanished on Christmas Eve day.

The trial was ordered by Municipal Court Judge Al Girolami after a 12-day preliminary hearing that featured testimony from pathology experts and from police detectives who said Peterson bought his small fishing boat the same month his wife disappeared.

Peterson could face the death penalty if convicted.
