Reward jumps for missing girl's return

TORONTO, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- A missing Toronto girl will be featured on "America's Most Wanted" this weekend, prompting family and friends to increase the reward offer, CTV News reported.

Cecilia Zhang, 9, was discovered missing Oct. 20 when her parents went to wake her for school. Police all but ruled out a random abduction by a predator within days.

When it was confirmed the U.S. television show would feature her abduction, Zhang's parents and the local Chinese community added money to the reward fund, now $85,000 (USD65,000), the television network said.

While the case is being treated as a possible kidnapping for profit, there hasn't been any word of a ransom demand.

The host of the crime show, John Walsh, told CTV the decision to use the Zhang story was in part based on gratitude.

"Millions of Canadians have called 'America's Most Wanted' in the last 16 years," he said. "We've broken some incredible cases. We need to get this little girl back alive."
