EU issues trade threat to Iran

BRUSSELS, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Iran faces serious economic consequences if it does not heed the European Union's warnings to address international concerns over its nuclear program.

EU foreign ministers, meeting in Brussels, said a lucrative trade accord could be in danger if Iran does not show progress in nuclear non-proliferation, fighting terrorism, human rights and the Middle East peace process, BBC reported

"More intense economic relations can be achieved only if progress is reached in the four areas of concern," the EU ministers said in a statement.

The International Atomic Energy Agency has given Tehran until the end of October to dispel lingering doubts about its nuclear ambitions.

An IAEA visit to Iran was postponed last week after Iranian officials requested more time to prepare for the visit.
