Siberia rocked by second quake

SIBERIA, Russia, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- A second strong earthquake in as many days rocked Siberia Sunday causing no injuries but a considerable amount of damage.

Officials declared a state of emergency in six regions of Russia's Altai republic, the ITAR-Tass news agency reported.

Sunday's earthquake had an estimated magnitude of between 5.0 and 6.0 on the Richter Scale, while Saturday's quake measured 8.5, the Emergency Situations Ministry said.

Numerous homes and businesses were destroyed in the remote mountainous region, ITAR-Tass said.

Several thousand residents of the region's capital spent Saturday night in the streets because of structural damage to their homes.
