U.S., Turkey plan troop deployment in Iraq

ANKARA, Turkey, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Turkey and the United States reportedly have agreed on a blueprint for deploying Turkish troops in Iraq.

Turkish officials told Middle East Newsline Tuesday the plan was drafted in the last week during talks by military officials of the two countries.

The plan outlines the size of Turkish forces, locations, command structure and liaison with the United States.

The plan includes three options for Turkey's military. The size of the force depends on the location and mission of the Turkish contingent.

The two countries also reviewed the risks of each option.

"We have been exchanging views without undertaking any commitment," Turkish Deputy Chief of Staff Gen. Ilker Basbug said.

"We are just trying to get the necessary information for the government's decision. We will have written information from Central Command in the coming days and present this to the Cabinet in two weeks."
