Police study possible tape of assassin

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Police said Friday they might have a videotape of foreign minister Anna Lindh's killer at the Stockholm department store where she was stabbed.

But they acknowledged there have been no arrests, raising concern among Swedes the investigation might prove as inconclusive as that of the slaying of Prime Minister Olof Palme in 1986, the New York Times said.

The two killings stunned Sweden, a nation that sees itself as tolerant and peace-loving.

"I don't know how long we can keep this image of ourselves," political scientist Olof Ruin told the Times.

Thousands of Swedes rallied against violence as hundreds more stood in line to place roses outside store where Lindh was killed Wednesday.

Police said they were studying a tape possibly showing the killer taken from a floor above the store.

The assassination of Lindh, 46, came just before a referendum on Sunday on whether Sweden should adopt the euro. Lindh was a known advocate of adopting the European Union currency.
