Mother gets life for abuse of 8-year-old

DALLAS, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- A mother was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday for keeping her 8-year-old daughter locked in a squalid closet with little food for months. Barbara Atkinson pleaded guilty last Thursday to child abuse charges after two days of testimony.
