CLEVELAND, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Despite his last trip to the NBA Finals ending in a loss to the Golden State Warriors, David Blatt still won a championship ring.

That's because the Cleveland Cavaliers, who fired Blatt halfway through the 2015 season, are giving its former coach a ring after beating the Warriors in this year's edition of the Finals. Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal reported the news.

Blatt now coaches the Darussafaka Dogus, a Turkish club. He went 83-40 with the Cavaliers, before being replaced by Tyronn Lue. Lue led the Cavaliers to a 27-14 record in the regular season and a 16-5 mark in the playoffs. Blatt was 14-6 in the 2014 NBA playoffs.

Cavaliers players and coaches receive rings on Oct. 25 when the team hosts the New York Knicks at Quicken Loans Arena. The Game 7 victory gave Cleveland its first championship in 52 years.

In July, former Cavaliers center Anderson Varejao said that he would decline a ring if the team offered him one.

Varejao played in 31 games with the Cavaliers and 22 games for the Warriors last season. He began his NBA career in 2004 with the Cavaliers before being released this season.
