MLB: San Francisco 4, Philadelphia 3

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Cody Ross smacked two solo home runs Saturday, powering the San Francisco Giants to a 4-3 win over Philadelphia in Game 1 of the NLCS.

Ross's first came in the third inning and put the Giants up 1-0. His second put San Francisco ahead for good at 2-1.

Former Philly Pat Burrell added an RBI to back Tim Lincecum (1-0), who went seven innings, yielding three runs on six hits and three walks. He struck out eight.

Philadelphia starter Roy Halladay (0-1) gave up four runs on eight hits over seven innings, walking none and striking out seven.

Jason Werth socked a two-run homer and Carlos Ruiz contributed a solo shot for the Phillies, who will seek to even the NLCS when the teams meet again Sunday night.
