CINCINNATI, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Cole Hamels pitched a five-hit shutout Sunday and the Philadelphia Phillies completed a three-game playoff series sweep of Cincinnati with a 2-0 victory.

Hamels (1-0) was masterful, issuing no walks and fanning nine batters as the Phillies advanced to the National League Championship Series for the third straight year.

The Phillies lefty raised his career record against the Reds to 7-0 with the 119-pitch victory, which sent Cincinnati out of its first NL Division Series appearance in 15 years.

Philadelphia now moves on to play the winner of the other NLDS between Atlanta and San Francisco, which the Giants lead 2-games-to-1.

The Phillies made it 1-0 in the first inning when Placido Polanco scored on shortstop Orlando Cabrera's throwing error and Chase Utley's solo homer in the fifth gave Philadelphia a 2-0 edge.

Reds starter Johnny Cueto (0-1) took the hard-luck loss, yielding only one earned run on five hits over five innings.
