New York reached the AL Championship Series for just the second time in six years, while the Twins extended their post-season losing streak to 12 straight games.

The wild-card winner Yankees will start the ALCS on the road against the winner of the ALDS between Texas and Tampa Bay. The Rangers held a 2-1 lead in that series.

Twins starter Brian Duensing (0-1) was tagged for seven hits and five runs over 3 1/3 innings.

Minnesota fell to the Yankees for the ninth straight time in post-season competition.
