MCLEAN, Va., Jan. 13 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency has contracted Alion Science and Technology to support the agency's nuclear threat detection programs.
U.S. company Alion was awarded a follow-on task order from DTRA for continued technical support of efforts to counter weapons of mass destruction. Under the $21.8 million contract, Alion will supply analysis support services for DTRA's nuclear detection technologies.
Officials say Alion will work on technologies with "high-risk, high-reward profiles" and evaluate their capability to protect the United States from nuclear and other explosive threats.
"The Alion team will play a vital role in assisting the government in the identification and transition of critical technologies in support of defense against weapons of mass destruction," Sue Archer, Alion senior vice president and manager of the Operational Solutions Group, said in a statement.
"Our work will help DTRA with formulating long-range research projects and uncovering those with the greatest potential benefits to reduce the threats posed by nuclear weapons."
