IDF thwarts suicide bombing

JERUSALEM, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Israeli Defense Forces said a large-scale raid in the West Bank city of Nablus has thwarted a suicide bombing attack.

According to The Jerusalem Post on Monday the IDF raid occurred before dawn on Sunday. Troops surrounded a building in Nablus and arrested four people and confiscated two explosive belts.

Two of the four men detained were said to be operatives of the militant Palestinian group Tanzim. The two, Yusef Abed Al Khader Sahli and Darwish Nimer Dawish Shafi, were from the city's Balata refugee camp.

The newspaper said witnesses reported hearing gunfire and explosions during the raid but additional information was not immediately available.

Six Palestinians were killed and more than two dozen others injured last week during a similar raid in the West Bank town of Ramallah, The Jerusalem Post said.
