NEW YORK, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Nearly 7.6 million people tuned in for Saturday's Republican presidential debate in Iowa, ABC said Monday.

The network called the program the most-watched debate of the 2012 campaign season thus far.

The debate was moderated by Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos.

Participating in the event were presidential hopefuls Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, Ron Paul and Rick Santorum.
