Taylor Swift wins big at AMAs

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Country music star Taylor Swift was declared Artist of the Year at the 2011 American Music Awards show at the NOKIA Theatre in Los Angeles.

Swift also picked up the prizes for Favorite Female Country Music Artist and Favorite Country Album in the Sunday night ceremony.

Hot Chelle Rae was named Sprint New Artist of the Year and Nicki Minaj took home the AMAs for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album.

Adele won the honors for Favorite Female Pop/Rock Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Album and Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist.

Maroon 5 was presented with the prize for Favorite Pop/Rock Band, Duo or Group and Jennifer Lopez was presented with the Favorite Latin Music Artist award.

The event featured performances by Nicki Minaj, LMFAO, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull, Chris Brown, Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry.

Perry also was presented with an award of achievement for being the first woman in the history of pop music to have five No. 1 singles from one album.

Chris Harrison and Vanessa Lachey served as co-hosts of the show, which aired on ABC.
