REESE WITHERSPOON: The parents of Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon are embroiled in a bigamy lawsuit, court documents filed in Tennessee show.
The film star's mother, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Witherspoon, and father, John Draper Witherspoon, have been married for 42 years, but have lived apart since 1996 because of John's drinking and hoarding problems, The (Nashville) Tennessean reported Thursday.
Betty Witherspoon filed a lawsuit Tuesday seeking to have her husband's January marriage to Tricianne Taylor annulled and claiming John Witherspoon didn't remember it happening, the newspaper said.
Betty Witherspoon said in the court documents she loves her husband and does not want a divorce. She said she believes her 70-year-old spouse is suffering from early-onset dementia and is being taken advantage of financially by Taylor, the Tennessean reported.
Reese Witherspoon's film credits include "Walk the Line," "Legally Blonde," "Cruel Intentions" and "Election."
COURTENEY COX: TBS says it has ordered a fourth season of "Cougar Town," a Florida-set sitcom starring Courteney Cox that previously ran on ABC.
The cable network said new episodes are to begin airing in early 2013. In addition, TBS has acquired the encore rights to the show's first three seasons, which include 61 episodes.
"'Cougar Town' is a smart, whimsical sitcom that draws its humor from likable, relatable characters," Michael Wright, president and head of programming for TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies, said in a statement Thursday. "We are thrilled to have 'Cougar Town' moving to the TBS neighborhood as the network continues to expand its slate of original comedy series."
"Cougar Town" co-stars Dan Byrd, Brian Van Holt, Christa Miller, Ian Gomez, Josh Hopkins and Busy Philipps.
THANDIE NEWTON: American satellite company DirecTV says it has ordered 10 episodes of "Rogue," an original suspense-drama starring Thandie Newton.
Newton's film credits include "Mission Impossible 2," "Crash" and "Interview with the Vampire."
"Rogue" will be the first original drama series DirecTV exclusively commissions for its customers. It has previously picked up and continued series such as "Damages" and "Friday Night Lights," which were canceled by other networks.
Production on "Rogue" is to begin this August for a summer 2013 premiere.
"There's an excitement in the hallways of DirecTV as 'Rogue' will be the first original series on the Audience Network that will be built from the ground up with the specific goal to provide DirecTV customers with a premium entertainment experience they can't get anywhere else," Chris Long, the company's senior vice president of entertainment and production, said in a statement Thursday.
Newton will play a morally and emotionally conflicted police detective tormented by the possibility her own actions contributed to her son's death, a synopsis said.
CONAN O'BRIEN: Conan O'Brien is to make his first visit in 13 years to the "Late Show with David Letterman" in New York next week, CBS announced Thursday.
O'Brien is to drop by the show May 17.
He succeeded Letterman as host of NBC's "Late Night" in 1993 after Letterman left to begin "Late Show" on CBS. O'Brien served as host of "Late Night" until 2009, and then became emcee of "The Tonight Show" until January 2010.
In November 2010, he began his late-night cable talk show, "Conan," on TBS.
The visit will be O'Brien's fifth to "Late Show."
He last sat down for an interview with Letterman Jan. 13, 1999.
Musician John Mayer will sit in with Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra on the May 17 episode.
