'Control' wins big at British indie awards

LONDON, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- "Control" was the big winner at the British Independent Film Awards ceremony held at the Roundhouse in London Wednesday night.

Named the best British independent film, the movie also earned one of its stars, Toby Kebbell, the prize for best performance by a supporting actor or actress, while another actor, Sam Riley, earned the title of most promising newcomer.

The film's director Anton Corbijn won the best director honor, as well as The Douglas Hickox Award.

"Notes on a Scandal" star Judi Dench won the award for best performance by an actress, while the film's scribe Patrick Marber received the prize for best screenplay.

"Eastern Promises" actor Viggo Mortensen also earned the award for best performance by an actor in a British independent film.
