Rita creates havoc on show skeds

HOUSTON, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Hurricane Rita has blown away plans for a Houston benefit concert for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Organizers of the CMT One Country concert postponed the event, originally scheduled for Oct. 1 at Houston's Reliant Stadium, E! Online reported Thursday.

George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Willie Nelson, Martina McBride and ZZ Top were among the performers on board for the benefit.

"The potential danger posed by Hurricane Rita and her aftermath will not allow the window of time necessary to create a show of this magnitude," the Messina Group said in a statement. "The risks are too great to artists, vendors and volunteers to commit their efforts to this endeavor at this time."

Weekend concerts by Coldplay, Oasis and Journey were also either postponed or canceled outright.
