Destiny's Child wins BET Best Group

LOS ANGELES, June 29 (UPI) -- The soon-to-be-defunct trio Destiny's Child took the 2005 BET award as Best Group at a ceremony that featured a surprise reunion of the Fugees.

Destiny's Child performed three songs at Hollywood's Kodak Theater Tuesday night, in which emcees Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith set out some comical rules for winners. One of them was "Do not thank God if you cannot perform your work in church."

Among the gala's other winners were Remy Ma, for Best Female Rap Artist, Alicia Keyes for Best Female R&B, and Usher for Best Male R&B.

Kanye West won Best Male Hip-Hop, while John Legend took the Best New Artist award.

The Viewer's Choice Award went to Omarion for "O," BET reported.

Gladys Knight was presented with a Lifetime Achievement award by Toni Braxton. Stevie Wonder closed the program with his version of "Happy Birthday" to mark the 25th anniversary of the awards.
