Saab supplies electronics for Patria armored vehicles

Saab of Sweden has been contracted to supply electronic equipment for use with communications systems of Finnish-made armored vehicles.

LINKOPING, Sweden, April 23 (UPI) -- Electronics equipment for use on vehicles being produced for South Africa by a Finnish manufacturer are to be supplied by Saab of Sweden.

The electronics for the information systems of AMV 8x8 vehicles by Patria Land Systems Oy include a data network and operator displays, as well as digital video systems with cameras.

Saab said the equipment will be delivered to Patria and integrated aboard the vehicles between this year and 2016. Additional details about the contract, however, were not provided.

"Saab is supplying Patria AMV vehicles with the latest technology, helping to improve local situational awareness for soldiers in the field,” said Niclas Lovgren, director and head of Vehicle Systems at Saab’s Support and Services business area. “This order further establishes our position as a leading supplier of robust systems within vehicle electronics on the international market."

The Patria AMV 8x8 is a modular multi-role vehicle. Variants include a communications vehicle, armored personnel carrier, infantry fighting vehicle and ambulance.
