MINNEAPOLIS, June 26 (UPI) -- U.S. company Honeywell says it has received a $37 million award from Airbus to build and maintain a power management facility for a planned factory in Alabama.
The Factory to be built by Airbus, in the city of Mobile, will assemble the French company's A320 aircraft. The power unit will control the distribution of utilities for Airbus' first U.S. plant.
The contract calls for Honeywell to build the power facility as well as manage and maintain it for 10 years.
"Complex, large-scale manufacturing plants require precise support to keep assembly rolling and costs manageable," said Paul Orzeske, president of Honeywell Building Solutions. "Our work for Airbus is a prime example of Honeywell's expertise in helping organizations design, build and maintain technologies that ensure energy and operational excellence for the long term."
Honeywell said the power plant is expected to be finished by mid-2014, and will be designed and built to LEED-certification standards. Several Mobile- and Alabama-based contractors will be hired to help complete it.
