SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Underwater sensor and technology company ERAPSCO has been contracted to produce sonobuoy systems for the U.S. Navy.

The systems will consist of AN/SSQ-53F passive acoustic sensor for detection, classification, and localization of adversary submarines and an AN/SSQ-62E DICASS sonobuoy, an active acoustic sensor for the final localization and attack phase of anti-submarine operations.

The contract is worth $71.2 million.

The Sparton Corp. and Ultra Electronics, the parent companies of ERAPSCO, said they will receive subcontracts for the system from ERAPSCO that are worth $29.2 million and $42 million, respectively.

"ERAPSCO is firmly committed to the development of innovative technology in supplying the U.S. Navy with quality products that help secure U.S. borders and proud to continue in its role as a technology partner for the U.S. Navy," the companies said in a statement.

Production will take place at Sparton's DeLeon Springs, Fla., facility as well as USSI's Columbia City, Ind., facility.

The number of systems to be produced for the Navy wasn't disclosed but the companies said they expected to complete the work by January 2015.
