SCHAUMBURG, Ill., April 10 (UPI) -- Active and passive sonar buoys for Japan's maritime force are to be provided by ERAPSCO/SonobuoyTech Systems of the United States.
The systems, which will be provided through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program, is worth $2.6 million and will be used in support of the Japan military exercises planned with the U.S. Navy and others.
ERAPSCO/SonobuoyTech Systems is a joint venture of Sparton Corp. and USSI, a subsidiary of Ultra Electronics Holdings Plc., and received the subcontracts for the buoys from Sparton.

"Passive and active sonobuoys are used for detection, classification and localization of adversary submarines during peacetime and combat operations.
