NEW DELHI, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- BAE Systems has signed a contract with India to provide spare and ground support gear for the Indian air force's Hawk training aircraft.
The jet trainers used by India are manufactured under license by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. BAE supplies the materials, parts and support services.
BAE said the value of the contract is nearly $92 million and brings the total value of Hawk-related contracts with India to more than $934 million.
"The Indian air force has one of the largest fleets of Hawks anywhere in the world and this contract is vital to ensure the continued availability of the fleet," said Guy Griffiths, BAE Systems' group managing director, International.
"This new order strengthens the robust production platform established by our partner HAL for the aircraft, which remains the benchmark advanced jet trainer in service today."
BAE Systems also announced its joint venture with Mahindra and Mahindra, Defense Land Systems India, has begun delivering mine-protected vehicles to police in Jharkhand.
