THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Teledyne Scientific & Imaging LLC has been contracted by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to develop innovative guided ordnance technology.
The contract is worth $25.45 million and is for Phase II of DARPA's Extreme Accuray Tasked Ordnance program for a highly accurate, small-caliber weapon system capable of engaging moving targets at extreme ranges and in high-wind conditions.
"This exciting system demonstration program is a key element of Teledyne's strategy to support future armed service objectives for ultra-high precision and affordable guided weapons for the warfighter," said Robert Mehrabian, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Teledyne Technologies, parent company of Teledyne Scientific & Imaging LLC.
Teledyne said it has assembled a team for the project that includes Alliant Techsystems, Cubic Defense Applications, Charles Stark Draper Laboratory, Elbit Systems of America and Teledyne Brown Engineering.
The Teledyne-led team will design and field test an actively guided, maneuverable .50-caliber bullet, fire control system and ancillary subsystems, it said.
