Netherlands seeks bombs, torpedo kits

WASHINGTON, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress of possible foreign military sales to the Netherlands of bombs and torpedo conversion kits.

The two sales would be worth a total of $194 million.

"The government of the Netherlands has requested a possible sale of 603 GBU-39/B Small Diameter Bombs1, containers, flight test integration, spare and repair parts, support equipment, personnel training and equipment, publications and technical data, U.S. government and contractor engineering and logistics personnel services and other related elements of logistics support," the agency said.

The sale of this equipment and support will improve the Netherlands' ability to destroy protected, high-value targets such as command-and-control nodes and weapons storage facilities, it said, adding that the sale will be the of this weapon to the Netherlands.

If the sale goes through, the primary contractor would be the Boeing Corp.

The agency said the request for torpedo conversion kits involved 40 MK- 48 Mod 7 Advanced Technology Torpedo Conversion Kits and associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support for an estimated cost of $150 million.

The prime contractor would be Raytheon's Integrated Defense Systems.
