LM announces expanded cyber initiatives

GAITHERSBURG, Mass., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- U.S. defense company Lockheed Martin says it plans to continue expanding its cyber-based development operations to serve an evolving market demand.

Lockheed Martin announced a new Cyber University initiative as part of an overall strategy to support cybersecurity demands with new training initiatives for a cybersecurity workforce.

Lockheed Martin additionally announced a university recruiting, cyber mentoring and academic graduate scholarships in cybersecurity development among other strategic plans to expand cyber capabilities.

"Cyber security is embedded in everything Lockheed Martin delivers and our people are critical to ensuring mission resilience for our customers," Rick Johnson, Lockheed Martin Information Systems and Global Services vice president and chief technology officer, said in a statement.

"The company recognizes the significance of its cyber workforce and has invested more than $1 million in university recruiting, scholarships and training."
