Axl Rose slams Peppers for Super Bowl fakeout

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- The Red Hot Chili Peppers might have a decent explanation for why their guitars weren't even plugged in at the Super Bowl, but Axl Rose isn't buying it.

The Guns N' Roses frontman compared the Peppers' halftime show performance to that of the fake sign language interpreter at the Nelson Mandela memorial, mocking the performance in a lengthy diatribe published on Billboard.

Rose joked that the Peppers were the first to roll out the new "Google Ass," with microchips installed in their rear ends to pick up the frequencies from their instruments.

"This is probably all just Google finding new ways to enrich our lives with the selfless volunteering of the Peppers and the ever ongoing creative process of true innovation or perhaps a new lounge bar record of super magnificent proportions and a new pinnacle of human achievement not seen since the sign language guy in South Africa!" he wrote.

And while Rose's essay was published before Peppers guitarist Flea offered his explanation for the extended air guitar performance -- the NFL made them do it, essentially -- Rose doubled down.

"Oh well, so much for science!" he tweeted. "But hey, they still got that karaoke thing going for 'em! Awesome!"
