Scott Weiland gives a bizarre performance of "Vasoline"

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas, May 1 (UPI) -- Fans of 1990s rock band Stone Temple Pilots will recognize the tune and the words but perhaps not the singer.

Video from a live performance at Brewster Street Icehouse April 28 in Corpus Christi, Texas, shows former STP frontman Scott Weiland moving very slowly and slurring his way off-key through the STP hit "Vasoline."

"Alright, this is a new song. We just worked it out today," Weiland says slowly before the band begins playing and his odd delivery starts.

Weiland has been publicly criticized by former STP bandmates who say his fans are enabling his drug use.

Weiland has admitted to battling a heroin habit and separated from the Stone Temple Pilots in 2013. His former band continues to tour with the former singer from Linkin Park.

Weiland claims he is clean and blamed his poor performance on a lack and sleep, a couple of drinks and a bad earpiece.
