Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Police are investigating an altercation that left a man dead at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City during the Chiefs game versus the Denver Broncos Sunday.

Kansas City Police Chief Darryl Forte said the death was being treated as a homicide in a tweet Sunday night.

According to officials, a man was rushed to the hospital after an altercation in the stadium's Lot A, where he later died. Three have been taken into custody as persons of interest, but police have not said how they are connected to the man's death.

The man and his son reportedly went to their Jeep during the game and found a strange man sitting inside their car. While the son ran for help, the Jeep's owner and the intruder fought and the intruder collapsed during the fight.

Police said they are trying to determine if he had broken into the Jeep, or if he had mistakenly gotten in, and an autopsy is being conducted to determine how he died, since he was not shot or stabbed.

"The main thing we're trying to figure out now is exactly how this person died," said police officer Darrin Snapp. "The hospital says there's no obvious signs of how he passed away, so we're still waiting on that. We're going to investigate it as a homicide until we find out exactly how the person died."

In a sad twist, the death occurred a year to the day after Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher murdered Kasandra Perkins, the mother of his daughter, and then killed himself in front of Chiefs staff at Arrowhead.
