(UPI) -- When Warner Brothers announced several months ago that Ben Affleck would be squeezing the Caped Crusader's iconic Batsuit for the upcoming Batman vs. Superman film, online reaction ranged from bewilderment to outrage.

But filmmaker Kevin Smith said on his most recent podcast, Hollywood Babble-On, that dubious fans shouldn't worry about Affleck in the role.

Here's Smith's comments, via ScreenRant:

"I don’t want to give anything away ’cause that is up to them and stuff, but I am going to say this … I instantly bear hugged [director Zack Snyder]," he said. "You have not seen this costume on film before. For a comic book fan, it was mind-bending."

"Every other movie does this Matrix-y black armor thing … There wasn’t a single nipple on this suit. I think everyone is just gonna be like ‘Holy [expletive]!’ It’s its own thing," he said. "Even the hardest core person will be like ‘Alright, I’m ready.'"

Smith has worked with Affleck on a slew of films, including Jersey Girl, Dogma and Chasing Amy.

Batman vs. Superman, which will pit Affleck against Henry Cavill, is slated to open in July of 2015.
