Kensington Palace has encrypted WiFi, panic room, palace 'insider' says of renovations

(UPI) -- Prince William and his wife, the duchess of Cambridge, left their quiet home in Anglesey, Wales for a altogether more hectic life in London, shortly after the birth of Prince George last summer. But they weren't able to move into their permanent home in Kensington Palace's 20-bedroom Apartment 1A until a complete renovation had gotten rid of the asbestos.

Middleton spent18 months renovating the royal rooms for her growing family, a palace "insider" told US Weekly Monday.

"Their home is beautiful. This is a very exciting time for them," the source said.

According to reports, Kensington Palace's modern-day amenities include encrypted WiFi, central air, three kitchens and a panic room. Middleton kept some of the apartment's historic details, but worked with her mother's designer, Anne Allen, to personalize her home with "beiges, creams and earth tones."

But no big move is complete without a housewarming party. The duke and duchess will show off their new digs with a celebrity-studded gala November 26, according to InStyle UK. Proceeds from the event will go to the homeless, with Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift, James Blunt and Eliza Doolittle among the rumored performers.
