Saudi airstrike in Yemen kills 17

TAIZ, Yemen, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- A Saudi air strike targeting a civilian home killed 17 people, including leaders of the Houthi rebel group in Yemen, according to government sources.

The bombing happened in the war-torn southern city of Taiz, the nation's third-largest population center. Al Jazeera reported there was no immediate comment from the Saudi-led coalition forces about the airstrike or who it was targeting.

Saudi Arabia has led an offensive against the Shiite Houthi rebels in March 2015, after Houthis backed by Iran overtook the Yemeni capital Sanaa.

Saudi state-run media reported the airstrike came after the country intercepted a medium-range missile launched fro a Houthi-controlled area of Yemen targeting the Muslim holy city Mecca. Houthi leaders denied the missile was targeting Mecca, and instead saying it was launched at the Saudi city Jeddah.
