COLONIA ESCALON, El Salvador, April 9 (UPI) -- Authorities on Saturday raided the El Salvador offices of Panama-based Mossack Fonseca, the law firm at the center of the Panama Papers information leak that allegedly unearthed the private financial dealings of world leaders.

Police have seized "few documents," computers and servers from the local offices, according to updates provided through Twitter. They were reportedly prompted to search the offices after the firm took its external sign down Thursday.

Remaining employees in the building said they were planning on moving locations.

The country's Attorney General Douglas Melendez supervised the raid. The offices are said to have provided "back office" functions for clients, according to a document posted to Twitter by the attorney general's office. It was not listed as a branch on the firm's official website.

Seven employees were questioned but not detained, Melendez said, according to Al Jazeera.

The law firm is at the center of an enormous data breach which has brought suspicion on global leaders including Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

Icelandic Prime Minister Sigmundur Davio Gunnlaugsson resigned from his post since being named in the so-called Panama Papers. Putin has called the leak an American plot to undermine Russia.

The Panama Paper leaks were prompted by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and allegedly provided information regarding the activities of high-profile clientele within the tax haven.
