SANA'A, Yemen, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Four anti-government Shia protesters were shot and killed Tuesday as they attempted to storm a government building in Yemen's capital, Sana'a.

The protesters were part of the Houthi rebel group, a militia of religious insurgents, which is accusing the government of corruption and has organized protests in recent weeks. One, Monday, in which protesters attempted to storm Yemeni cabinet meeting, resulted in a clash in which up to 30 rebels, and 50 people overall, were killed.

Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi has accused the protesters of attempting to overthrow the Sunni-led majority government. Last week he dismissed the government and Monday fired the head of special military forces for failing to disperse the protest.

Houthi leader Abdel Malik al-Houthi announced protests would continue, saying, ""We vow to continue in our position and dismiss any questioning of our intentions. The solution is to respond definitively to the popular demands, and we are serious in these demands."
