Fifth prime minister in six years ousted by Somali parliament

MOGADISHU, Somalia, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Somali Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon, in office little more than a year, lost his position Monday in a no-confidence vote by Parliament, officials say.

Shirdon, the nation's fifth prime minister in six years, was ousted when 184 of the 250 members voted to remove him in a disagreement about the selection of members of a new cabinet, al-Jazeera.com reported.

In a press conference before results of the voting were announced, Shirdon said some cabinet ministers "are behind the current political instability. They think the prime minister could be easily ousted, so they could keep their positions."

President Hassan Sheik Mohamad has not indicated when he will appoint a new prime minister.
