Suspect arrested in Myanmar bombing that injured an American woman

THATON, Myanmar, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Myanmar police said they arrested a man Tuesday who was allegedly involved with planting the bomb at the Traders Hotel in Yangon that injured an American woman.

Saw Myint Lwin was detained at a barricade after police used security footage to identify him, police in the Thaton township said.

Authorities said the suspect allegedly planted a second explosive device at a restaurant.

A bomb squad was able to defuse that device, but the bomb at Traders Hotel detonated Monday night, The Irrawaddy reported.

Authorities handed the suspect over to a team investigation explosions.

Three people have been detained in connection with the hotel blast, but no one has been charged.

Monday's explosion was the third bombing in Yangon, also known as Rangoon, since Friday in a series of recent attacks, The Irawaddy said.
