Seven Taliban militants killed in NATO airstrike in Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- At least seven suspected Taliban members have been killed in a NATO airstrike in the eastern Afghanistan province of Maidan Wardak, officials say.

Provincial government spokesman Ataullah Khogyani confirmed the deaths of the militants in a late Friday evening attack, Khaama Press reported.

Khogyani said civilians living in the vicinity of the strike were not injured.

He said the targeted militants frequently conducted attacks on Afghan and security forces in the province.

In a separate incident Friday night, a Taliban group commander was killed and another Taliban member was injured during a fight with Afghan security forces in eastern Kunar province.
