SHANGHAI, June 19 (UPI) -- The Shanghai Food and Drug Administration released its first list of companies Wednesday that have violated food safety rules and will be punished.

Shanghai set up new food safety rules in March.

Companies on the list will receive administrative punishment and their executives will be banned from operating food businesses, Xinhua reported.

Gu Zhenhua, deputy director of the Shanghai Food and Drug Administration, said the rules are part of a food safety credibility system.

Under the system, companies that lose credibility will have restricted market access, and companies that comply with the rules will enjoy preferential policies, Xinhua said.

The Beijing municipal government has also introduced a new food safety accountability system.

In Beijing, food producers or vendors will be banned from working in the industry for life if they produce or sell unsafe food.
