Berlusconi seeks delay of hearing

ROME, April 16 (UPI) -- Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi asked Tuesday for a court hearing to be postponed so he can vote in the presidential election.

The hearing before the Supreme Court, now scheduled for Thursday, involves his request for two trials to be moved out of Milan, the Italian news agency ANSA reported. Berlusconi says the judges in Milan are prejudiced against him.

Parliament is scheduled to begin voting Thursday on the next president. Berlusconi, currently a member of the Senate, is both a voter and a possible candidate to succeed Giorgio Napolitano in the largely honorary position.

Berlusconi is currently on trial in Milan on a charge of having sex with an underage woman and is appealing a tax conviction.
