Policeman arrested in Mexico City deaths

MEXICO CITY, July 16 (UPI) -- A man suspected of having ties to the killings of three federal police officers in June has been arrested, police said.

Police said a tip led law enforcement officials to Bogard Felipe Lugo de Leon, the supervisor of two federal police officers accused of firing on three colleagues who tried to arrest them during a drug bust at Mexico City's Benito Juarez International Airport, CNN reported Monday.

The two officers accused in the shooting, Daniel Cruz Garcia and Zeferino Morales Franco, were at large, police said.

Security camera video shows Lugo de Leon leaving the airport after the shooting, police said. No other details about his alleged involvement have been released.

A $376,100 reward has being offered for the capture of Cruz and Zeferino, who told Proceso magazine earlier this month they weren't connected with drug trafficking and were targeted because they threatened to bring to light drug ties within the airport police.
