MOSCOW, June 8 (UPI) -- Six militants killed in the Russian republic of Dagestan included Kyzlar leader Rustam Gasanov, who had been on a wanted list for three years, officials said.
Gasanov, 31, was killed Friday in a clash with security forces, the national anti-terrorist committee said.
"No law enforcement agents were injured or killed … . Currently, the flat where the militants were holed up is being checked by bomb technicians, after which the investigators will start their work," a source in the Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti.
The committee said Gasanov had been on the wanted list since 2009.
Investigators said one of the other militants killed was a woman wanted for helping the gang, RIA Novosti said.
Gasanov took over leadership of the gang last year. He shot his predecessor during a conflict in 2010, the committee said.
Russian security forces often fight militants in the North Caucasus region, including Dagestan, officials said.
