No ID yet on body found in hockey bag

MARION BRIDGE, Nova Scotia, May 27 (UPI) -- Police in Nova Scotia said they were working to identify the body of a woman found stuffed in a hockey equipment bag.

The body was found in the Mira River in the town of Marion Bridge Friday night by two people who were barbecuing in their back yard.

"Investigators are trying to determine at this point who this lady is," Regional Police Staff Sgt. Mike Kennedy told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. "Because of what we've learned so far, we are treating this death as a homicide."

An autopsy was performed to help police learn the woman's identity and the cause of death. Divers were sent into the river over the weekend to search for any possible clues on the bottom.

The CBC said the ghastly discovery had upset many residents of Marion Bridge, who described their small community as peaceful and quiet.
