9 Afghan insurgents killed, weapons seized

BAGRAM AIR BASE, Afghanistan, May 5 (UPI) -- Afghan and coalition forces discovered a weapons cache, killed nine insurgents and detained five others in missions across eastern Afghanistan, officials said.

In Wardak province, the Afghan National Army and coalition forces killed six insurgents and came upon the weapons cache Friday in the Sayyidabad district, International Security Assistance Force said in a release Saturday. Troops seized small arms and ammunition, grenades and mortar rounds used for improvised explosive devices.

In Kapisa province, a coalition airstrike killed three insurgents in the Alah Say district. The individuals were observed setting up mortar fire, the ISAF said.

Afghan Uniform Police in Ghazni province arrested three people in the Deh Yak district, one of whom was positively identified as a known insurgent. The other two tested positive for having recently constructed improvised explosive devices, the release said.

AUP and ANA soldiers arrested two people in Khost province who had 250 kilograms of fertilizer that tested positive for nitrates, ISAF said.
