NEW DELHI, March 5 (UPI) -- A 5.2-magnitude earthquake rocked New Delhi and nearby towns in North India Monday, authorities said. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The U.S. Geological Service said the quake struck just after 1:11 p.m. local time, with its epicenter near Rohtak in Haryana state, 29 miles west-northwest of New Delhi.
Tremors were felt across the capital city and in the towns of Ghaziabad and Noida in Uttar Pradesh state, the Press Trust of India news agency reported.
Police and fire officials in the region said they had not received any immediate reports of casualties or damage, the report said.
Indian seismologists said New Delhi is among 30 cities in India that are part of what is classified as a severe intensity seismic zone.
