Swedish man stranded in car for 2 months

UMEA, Sweden, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- A Swedish man survived being buried in snow in his car for two months, with only snow and ice to keep him alive, authorities said.

The middle-aged man, whose name was not reported, was found by a pair snowmobiling Friday in Umea, Vasterbottens-Kuriren reported. They believed his car, which was parked at the end of a forest track, to be abandoned.

"Absolutely incredible that he is alive, in part considering that he hasn't had any food, but also bearing in mind that it was really cold for a while there after Christmas," one rescuer told the newspaper.

Emergency medical personnel estimated the man had been in the car for about two months, the longest a human can live without food, The Local reported Friday. He was seriously emaciated and had very limited ability to speak or move.

The man is in intensive care at Umea University Hospital.
