Alleged Colombian drug trafficker arrested

BOGOTA, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Alonso Marin "Don Urrea" Urrea, a Colombian who authorities describe as a major drug trafficker, was arrested in Colombia, police said.

Urrea is wanted in New York for his alleged involvement in trafficking of drugs to the United States.

Authorities say they believe Urrea, arrested Sunday, is the financial leader of the Urabenos drug operation in southwestern Colombia and the organization's contact with two members of the defunct Norte del Valle cartel in the Urabenos' war against the rival Los Rastrojos, Colombia Reports said.

Colombia's National Police said Urrea, 58, "was in charge of the finances … and managed the security of the shipment of cocaine hydrochloride in coordination with [a person using the] alias 'Martin Bala.'"

Urrea allegedly used businesses in Cali to launder money for the Urabenos' drug activities.
